Hello, I have been doing a bit of preliminary research into the top box carriers for the 2014 VFR800 and have been told that the 1200 OEM carrier will fit (only considering this because I really like the look of the 1200 carrier) but I was wondering if anyone can confirm or deny this, thanks in advance (also if this has been discussed previously feel free to remove this)

Grinding gears

I installed the Honda quickshifter about 300 miles ago and now I've had a few instances where the shift from 2nd to 3rd grinds, and I mean grinds..

Either I don't know how to use this thing or there's an issue. Any idea what's going on?

Just ordered stock panniers for my 2014 8th gen, cost way more than they should (as you all know) however I wanted the convenience and the looks. My wife is still shaking her head!! Looking at some posts regarding setting the one key cylinder sets😰 I am sure it will make sense when I have them in front of me. Will be around three weeks till I get them.

top yoke nut replacement - Specs?

The top yoke nut on my 2016 8th generation is corroding and not looking great. Would be nice to replace it with something alloy/nicer/corrosion resistant, but I can't find what the spec is to order after market.

The listings I can find are for earlier VFR's which is 24mm x 1.0mm thread pitch, but I can't find any listings for the 8th generation or what the thread is.

So does anybody know what yoke nut I need or do I just order another OEM to corrode in another 18 months time?

Edit: While I'm looking at the area, I pulled the black plastic bung in the top of the steering stem tube and found that was corroded as well, probably due to the plastic bung trapping water at the top.

Any other 8th generation owners want to pull the steering stem plastic bung out and check for corrosion inside the steering stem tube?

Install questions for Akrapovic slip on

Hi,

I purchased brand new and just fitted, a few questions...

1. Is it normal for the gap around the edges of the baffle (dB insert) and the carbon tail, cone to be a bit uneven?  I have more gap on the side furthest from the bike (see picture).

2. When installed, if looking from the rear, is the exhaust can slightly tilted?  On mine the bottom of the exhaust can pushes a bit outward from the bike so it doesn’t sit perfectly vertical compared to the bike.

3. I tightened the clamp where it mounts to the cat to 16 ft lbs but the clamp is basically closed fully so not like I could really tighten it further.  Normal?

Sorry, these may be dumb questions.  The install was rather easy but I just wanted to make sure I didn’t goof up.

Tires!

I'm only at about 3500 miles on my stock Dunlops, but on the rear I notice the indicators near the center are getting very close...  The edges are great.  The front is wearing more in the center, too, but still looks great even there.  Living in an area with plenty of twisty roads I did not expect the center of the tire to wear that quickly, but I guess I do too much straight-line riding anyway.  Shrug.  This is my first sporty bike, so maybe I am just having a rude awakening.  A few questions:

1)  Could this have been an inflation issue?  I check the pressure basically every time I ride, and kept the rear on 42 as directed.  I wonder if that was too much...

2)  Or do these tires just wear that quickly?  Reading through previous posts it doesn't seem uncommon at all, but then I'll see someone say they got 8k out of theirs.

3)  Given that I am not an aggressive sport rider and that I apparently am doing too much straight-line, then what tire would be a good one that would be more touring than sport?  Seems like everyone talks about good sport and/or rain performance, but not so much touring.  I only ride in the rain if I get caught out, and my internal sport rider is apparently less Rossi, and more Pussy, than I imagined.  I guess I need "touring sport" tires rather than "sport touring".

I looked at various web site and could not find any 2nd hand 8th gen for sale.

All Honda I found were Goldwings, and CBR.

Did the Interceptor sell so badly there ?

What battery are you all running? Looks like mine is starting to fail at just one year.

Do people generally stick to yuasa? I have run the cycle gear ones in the past that have died in 6 months. I see there are more options these days... Looking for recommendations.

Thank you

What kind of Oil/Filter do y'all use?

Hey guys, just as the title suggests.

First the filters...do you guys use OEM or aftermarket?  I've used K&N's on my previous steed (2007 GSXR1000) and it worked great.  However, I have heard some bad fitment/issues with our VFR's, though, so I'll likely stay away.  I was thinking an Amsoil synthetic filter or stay OEM.  Both are probably $$$.

As for oil...do you guys run the recommended 10w30 or use the typical 10w40?

10w30 isn't as popular, obviously, but I can still find some decent brands for full synthetic.

All opinions welcome!

Awesome Accessory Barswitches for 8th Gen. EU/US Deluxe - a review

$

I recently installed some accessory switches from PMR Components to my 2014 VFR800/Deluxe.  They can be customized for just about any kind of switch (single or double position, momentary, illuminated, etc.).  What drew me to their switches, over cheaper options, was that they not only look classy, but they’ll EASILY fit on almost any bike.  They just replace the front clamp on your clutch lever perch.  They’re billet aluminum, so supper strong.

Let me slow down a bit.  I’ve actually been buying these switches for a couple years, but when I bought my new-to-me VFR this year I thought I may have run into a problem.  I’ve got the 8th Gen Deluxe version, which has that ugly Traction Control button bolted onto the clutch perch/clamp, which would be in the way.  I don’t give up THAT easily, so I contacted PMR to ask them if they had a solution.  They did!  They were super helpful in helping me find a solution that I think is actually better than Honda’s original placement for the Trac Control switch.

If you’re interested in buying a barswitch with the relocation tab for the traction control switch, you may need to email PMR first, as I don’t think it’s currently listed on their webpage, at least not at the time of this review.  Regardless of what you buy, let them know you heard about them on this forum so they continue to develop products for our bike!

Words are boring, and I tend to use too many.  Now for some pictures!

I love switches!

Left = garage door - (momentary switch)

Center = LED driving lights - (SPST)

Right = Aux (ground trigger for PDM60 power distribution module) - (SPST)

Note: Trac Control switch is relocated to mounting tab at bottom of barswitch.

img

A peek at the mounting tab PMR Components designed for the Traction Control switch. The genius is in the simplicity. The switch is relocated from the top of the bar, to the bottom, and looks better too.

Looks clean!

The wires seem to disappear.

0bsNXr6.jpg

Quite the bundle of wires! I individually shrink-wrapped them for weather resistance & looks. They can be routed differently, but this is how I chose to do it.

goIC7zI.jpg

Although I can't get a casual glance through the sight-glass anymore, it's easy enough to nudge the wires aside for a peek. I may clean this up a little more with some small black wire-ties.

BONUS PICTURE FROM MY OLD BIKE

zqSFYim.jpg

Here’s an old picture I’m reposting from my CBR500r.  Notice the thumb switch between the grip and pod.  This is another PMR creation, which I used as the trigger for my garage door opener.  I went with a 3-switch pod on the VFR instead of reusing the thumb switch again, because I have the heated grip controller already in that space.

After daily use for about three years, I’m also happy to report the color didn’t fade one bit!

EDIT: Spelling, formatting, etc.

DIY Rear Wheel Balancing Solution?

I recently replaced my original tires, had no problem static balancing the front tire/wheel.Now I’m looking for a way to balance my rear wheel. I’ve seen cone shaped adapters for balancing single sided swing arm wheels, but they are pricey. Wondering if anyone has come up with a DIY solution for this.

Exhaust

I am looking at replacing my exhaust. I do have the oem saddlebags, so I am wondering some options. I have looked them all up, got some ideas but  I am looking for photos more than anything. I would love to show that rear tire more. I think Coffman has the shortest and the cheapest, however two brothers looks good but it shows it two different ways, at an angle or up and straight out I am guessing for the hard bags. Any photos and suggestions would help.

Hey all, looking for a bit of advice on replacing the rear brake rotor, attempted to replace it today and found that it seems to be mounted on the opposite side of the hub to the wheel (which I found strange) now what I need to know is has anyone actually changed one and if so how is the hub removed and is it a massive job to do
