Anyone fitted a aftermarket exhaust on a 2017 with the centre stand mount/stop hanging off the CAT?  Like the Arrow Proracing pipe but only see availability for 14 - 16 models.

Hi, my MIL light reads 8 long and 8 short flashes when I performed a current fault readout (aka jumped the brown and green wires on the DLC).

I can't find this code in the manual, does anyone know what it means?

87 VFR 700 Fuel Pump Help

My fuel pump went out again.  I sprung $$$ for the OEM last time and it has lasted about two years.  I tried one of the cheapies from ebay and found that the plug was wrong (male instead of female) and the lines were the wrong size (too small).  I am willing to try aftermarket if anyone has a suggestion, if not, I'll spring for $200 or so for  a new one.  Could use some suggestions.

Thanks,

Front rotor damaged

Hi all,

So I recently bent the front right rotor of my 2015 vfr800 in Canada. Several dealers say its 700 CAD for one rotor plus 100 CAD for labor at least and suggest changing both sides with costs up to 1700 with taxes. I decided to save that and do it myself (I'm new to all this too) and have been searching for the past 3 weeks.

I found only one rotor available in Canada. The Bike Master 972127 rotor (link below) will fit the 2014-2015 vfr800 dlx with abs but after receiving it, it doesnt have the screw holes for the pulsar ring (so assuming it's for the non-abs model).

Link: https://bikemaster.com/brake-rotor-front-hon-bm-5455.html

Probably going to return it but a bit stuck since I am all out of options now. Has anyone replaced their front rotors yet? If so, which ones did you get? Are their any other compatible models (cbr1000) rotors?

I found a topic here with a list of interchangeable rotors but it wasn't for the 8th gen.

Install questions for Akrapovic slip on

$

Hi,

I purchased brand new and just fitted, a few questions...

1. Is it normal for the gap around the edges of the baffle (dB insert) and the carbon tail, cone to be a bit uneven?  I have more gap on the side furthest from the bike (see picture).

2. When installed, if looking from the rear, is the exhaust can slightly tilted?  On mine the bottom of the exhaust can pushes a bit outward from the bike so it doesn’t sit perfectly vertical compared to the bike.

3. I tightened the clamp where it mounts to the cat to 16 ft lbs but the clamp is basically closed fully so not like I could really tighten it further.  Normal?

Sorry, these may be dumb questions.  The install was rather easy but I just wanted to make sure I didn’t goof up.

Aftermarket Pipes For Gen 8

So far as far as I know the Akrapovic is the only pipe available for the gen 8, so maybe we can post here if peoples become aware of any new ones that become available.

The Akra is not readily available from the usual sources either, and the sewing machine sound of the stock doesn't quite do it...

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have a spare quickshifter pedal?

Hello

Unfortunately I hit a sheep while touring Scotland. It snapped the quickshifter pedal. The quickshifter unit itself is fine.

If you don't already know, the OEM shifter pedal is different to the quickshifter pedal. Honda do not make a separate quickshifter pedal so if it's ever damaged it means buying an entirely new quickshifter (£180!). The OEM pedal is only £30 but unfortunately doesn't fit the quickshifter.

I don't suppose anyone has a shifter pedal from a quickshifter I could buy from them or maybe even a reduced priced quickshifter. I only need the pedal!

This is for a 2017 VFR800 and I am based in the UK.

Any help is hugely appreciated as I am trying to fix the damage myself instead of going through insurance which bumps up my premium far too much 😞

Thank you.

Glare On Instruments

This is a continuation of an archived topic:

It’s hard to believe that more 8th gen owners aren’t complaining about instrument glare. With about 300 sunny days per year in southern AZ, I experience it almost every time I ride my bike…sometimes for many miles.

The glare is much worse than shown here. It’s blinding sometimes. To address the issue, I’ve installed a dark face shield on my helmet and added a strip of dark window tinting along the bottom. It cuts the glare by about 75% yet still lets me read my gauges.

I made a copy of my customized film strip to make the job easier if/when I replace the face shield.

This is a workable solution for me, but I'm not responsible if it doesn't work for you. And, I'm not liable for any injury or expense you might incur by trying this. My lawyer told me to add this 😉

Even with a 6th Gen RWB Anniversary model,  this is so awesome and tempting!  I knew there was a reason why I always liked AMA legend Steve Rapp!

And If you are in the Monterey area near Laguna Seca be sure to check out Iconic Motorbikes.  Tad Dimer the owner is a super cool guy and a massive enthusiast.  Bring plenty of napkins...  Currently they have two VFR 400s there to tempt your bank account balance.IMG_8628.jpg.6b018faa4549f1d2622b6dc0b9654cf8.jpg

Steering issue?

$

0

I've been riding my other bike (Ducati Monster S4R) a lot the past month without riding my VFR. When riding the VFR last weekend, I immediately noticed what felt like the steering wanting to "fall-in" once I started to turn - meaning it wanted to turn the wheel more on it's own without my input. Its more pronounced at lower speeds, but still noticable up to around 50mph. The only other time I experienced this was when the front tire was low on pressure. I checked it, and it's fine - 35 psi.

So I figured it's because I've been riding the Ducati which has a very neutral steering feel, and I just forgot how the VFR steering felt. But wondering why I didn't notice this before. I'm wondering if there is an adjustment to the steering stem that came loose. I checked the Owners Manual and found nothing. I guess I should check the steering stem nut for tightness, but not sure that should even matter.

Has anyone else noticed this as a normal characteristic of the 8th generation steering? Assuming the answer is yes, I think a steering damper may be a worthwhile investment.

Bridgestone T30 Report

Hi,

I just returned from a 3 week 7000 mi jaunt from my home in North Carolina to California and back.

New Bridgestone T30s were installed before the ride and they were scrubbed in to the tune of 350 mi before I set off.

Let's say most of the riding ( 70% )  was in a straight line but, the ride included PCH,  Utah 24 and 12, and getting totally lost in the canyons east of San Jose for about 80 mi.

Attached are pics of the tire after the ride ( yeah, embarrassed at the chicken strips ) and a new rear T30 next to it. Yes, it's squared off but, still rideable...figure I can get 2000 more

miles out of it. The T30s worked great !
