What is the fuel capacity for the 8th gen VFR800?

There seem to be some differing numbers of 5.20 and 5.60 gallons (19.7 and 21.2 liters, respectively).

There isn't a difference in capacity between countries is there? Searching through posts for Eighth Gen fuel ranges, some members from Spain, Australia, Germany, and UK have filled 19.7 to 20.4 liters (5.2 to 5.39 gallons). And yet, the manual I have and Honda North America's website for the VFR800F notes a 5.2 gallon fuel capacity. Some reviews on the 2014/15 mention 5.6 gallons.

On my 2015, haven't ran to dry but most I've filled is 4.738 and that's 15 or so miles after the E light coming on at 216 miles on the trip odometer. Haha, it's been bothering me and I'm just really curious.

Odometer flashes 0 before service

Hi,

I have a 2015 VFR800F. Sometimes the odometer starts to blink 0 repeatedly many miles before it is supposed to have a service. It has done so already three times and each time I took it around to my Honda dealer and he said that it was not due for a service and set the odometer to show the miles again. It did the same again last week and I don't want to have to go back to the dealer to ask him to do it. How can I do so myself?

Thanks in advance

Handlebar Risers

I have a sixth gen with risers on it and my buddy has an eighth gen stock set-up.  He recently added a cruiser to his fleet for long trips because he believes the VFR is too uncomfortable for big rides.  I suggested he get risers for the bars but he's worried it will ruin the handling.  Has anyone added risers to their gen 8's?  Does it change the handling?  And if so is it dramatic?

My gen 6 came with the risers so I don't know what a stock version is like for comparison.

Couldn't stay away...

Hello again VFRD-ers

Well, I couldn't stay away.  I sold my 7th gen last year after a work layoff and relocation to Utah, and it's been eating me up inside not having a bike.  I was in Denver for work last weekend and wound up buying a brand-new-old 2015 deluxe in red.

I pick it up tomorrow sometime and cart it back to Utah.

I've already ordered a bunch of accessories, and am planning on really doing some work on it this summer in hopes of touring Arches, Moab, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Glacier, and some other national parks.

First impressions versus the 7th gen...

1) Vtec isn't as bad as advertised, and frankly I found it a bit smexy.

2) Riding impression is remarkably similar.  Good power, though not as much of it obviously.  Ergonomics and seating is just right for me.  Suspension needs some work obviously, but mainly because I'm a tubby bucket-o-love.

3) Wind protection just isn't as good as the 7th gen.

4) Brakes are also nowhere near as good, but I'm not surprised by that either.  The 7th gen brakes are legendary.

5) The weight is WAY more manageable.  This thing is so much more maneuverable at lower speeds than the 7th gen was.

I think for my riding style, this 8th gen will be an absolute peach.  I'm really looking forward to throwing a bunch of miles on it.

I've ordered the panniers and a quick-shifter (rode a Yamaha Tracer GT when shopping and loved that feature), as well as a full tankslapper set of films, a SW Motech tank bag, shop manual and some other sundries.  Suspension will be done soon too, as I now know first-hand how big of a difference it can make.  A DAM exhaust is going to happen soon, but the checking account has bulemia currently, so I'm giving it a bit of a break.

Anything else you guys think is worth consideration?

Yup, VFR No.2 has now gone and been replaced with a KTM 1290 Superduke GT!

Looking forward to doing as many silly miles but in a different style. Oh, and spending lots of cash on putting things on I like 🙂

The good news is, adjustable levers (including brake and gear), quickshifter, heated grips, 12v socket and tyre pressure monitors are all standard. The previous owner also fitted an accessories control panel, satnav bracket, USB ports, Denali spotlights and sound bomb so all I need is a rear rack, handguards and a replacement end can and all is right with the world!

Returning to the VFR has been fun and I manged to stick 37k miles in the last two years but I'm actively looking forward to the extra power and, more importantly for me, the lighter weight. If Honda ever decide to move the VFR in that direction (1000cc and a diet anyone?) I may be back. Still got the CBR650F as my commuter so haven't given up on Honda totally! Although the first thing I did was change the switchgear...

If there are any UK readers, I have just stuck a few things up on Ebay:

Givi rear rack 1132FZ (unused) and M5 plate

VFR800 VFR1200 Rear Carrier 08L71-MJM-D10

Left-hand switchgear (aah, remember the fun of swapping for one with a normal layout?)

Arrow Pro-Racing steel silencer/slip-on

Bagster black tank cover

All up for 99p start and no reserve so you could get lucky!

I'm going to order a oem honda top box soon.  I already have the oem panniers.  I'm not sure if I want to get the 31 liter box or the 45 liter box.  What size would you suggest?

Today i took out the battery, following the instructions from the manual. However when i placed it back in place and connected the poles the dash wasnt working!

I can see the "N" green lamp, indicators, light beam (blue symbol).

However speed, gear, fuel, rev counter is all dead.

Checked all fuses and no issues here.

Any suggestions?

Time to say goodbye, thanks all.

Parking garage sensors

I had a heck of a time getting out of my parking garage this morning because the buried sensors can’t see my bike .  Where I live has a parking garage and there are 2 gates. For both gates I have an access card that lets me in. The problem is my bike isn’t seen by the sensors. One gate has a call button but the other does not. For the 2nd gate I had to wait and follow someone through.

Any tips or tricks?  Do the neodymium magnets really help?

Anyone know what size of speed bleeder the 8th Gen takes? The brakes on my Crossrunner are the same so I figured you guys may know.

Cheers.

Hello folks,

I'm new to the Honda and VFR world! At the start of March of this year I purchased my first Honda, she's a 2014 VFR800F and when I got her she only had 1700 miles. Now she has 1800(to much rain here in the northern states to ride.)

So far I'm loving every minute of riding her and just sitting there starring at her after a good wash&wax job. Unfortunately a few weeks ago I had my first lay over with gravel while trying to make a low speed turn on a crappy farm back road. Needless to say the bike is fine except for road rash on the fairings and a bruised calf(and pride) But none the less she kept kicking and the small lay over hasn't effected the ride or performance.

I look forward to making new friends on here!

Suspension upgrade/Lowering link

I was wondering if there are any ohlins suspension or any good brand that makes suspension upgrades for the 2014 VFR. And also in the market for lowering kit for the VFR. I tried looking but only seen Ebay parts and kinda iffy about Ebay parts.

Where to locate 12V power socket?

Hi all,

I have a 2015 VFR800F and I'm planning to install 12V cigarette lighter power socket or 5V USB socket for powering my mobile phone.

I will use my mobile as a navigator, and therefore the socket should be close to steering bar.

I have thought two options.

Option 1, on the left side of the front forks, see the Picture 1.

Option2, on the left side of the tank similarly as in 2017+ models, see the Picture 2.

I haven't yet opened the fairing and I don't know if there will be enough space for option 1.

If anyone has done similar installation, where did you place the socket?

And, other recommendations for the socket location are welcome

Regards

Jussi

Dodging exploding tractor trailer tires

So I had an interesting ride home from work yesterday afternoon.  I had just gotten on the highway and a tractor trailer tire exploded right in front of me.  Luckily there were not any other cars around me so I took some crazy wild evasive action. Me and the bike got hit with some smaller pieces of tire but most of the big stuff missed. I was more worried about running over debris than all the pieces flying at me.

This is the first time, car or bike, that I have seen one of those tires fail.

Twice today my gear display has vanished only to display a horizontal line.  The bike runs fine. The second instance a quick off/on returned the gear display to normal.   Has any one else encountered this issue?

New Member from the UK - Battery problem

Hello everyone,

I am a new owner of a brand new 17YM 8th Gen VFR in black which i picked up just under two weeks ago. I've been reading through the forum and there's some really useful information, I'm looking forward to becoming an active member!

I do have a problem with the bike already though. When I picked the bike up I rode just under 100 miles on it and no issues. It was then parked in a garage for 9 days and now the bike won't start! It sounds like the battery is flat which surprised me. Has anyone experienced this issue with a new bike/battery? When I turn the ignition the lights come on the dash goes through the normal start up cycle. When I try to start the bike there's a strange almost tapping noise and the dash cuts out.

Thanks

The dreaded valve adjustment

Who has gotten their 36,000 mile valve service done by a mechanic/the dealer? How was the cost? Did the mechanic do it correctly?

I'm more than a little paranoid about taking my 8th gen in this winter because I have zero faith in the local Honda dealers. One flat out said "when it gets to that mileage just trade it in", and the other managed to screw up the fairings when they put them back on after the 600 mile service and overtightened the oil drain plug to the point the edges where rounded off. Add to my paranoia when my dad got the valves done on his '14 FJR1300 the dealer completely boogered it up and ruined the bike.

My newest acquisition.

Today I joined the 8th Generation VFR800 family with the purchase of a 2015 VFR800 Deluxe. My first Mod is a Delkevic 8” Mini Carbon Fiber Slip-on Pipe. LOVE the sound with the baffle removed.

So far I am impressed with the VAST improvement over the 6th Generation VFR800 in that it is narrower, smoother and more fuel efficient. It rides smooth as well. Love the LED Headlight which Honda should have done years ago. Overall it is a different beast than my old 2002 VFR800.

I will post pictures below as well as post further comment on the new bike as I put my miles on it. Honda is DEFINITELY the BEST!!!
