BLS blocks and brake pedal adjustment.

$

Just installed the BLS lowering blocks. They installed fine and are made well but I could not get the brake pedal low enough. I ran out of adjustment both on the brake lever and the brake light switch. At its lowest setting I had to lift my foot to apply the rear brake. I use the rear brake a lot in slow maneuvers and this is not working for me. I had to take the blocks off and readjust everything to factory spec.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to get the brake pedal to adjust lower?

Anyone Else Disappointed With The Head Lamps?

I've only just got the bike, but feel quite let down with the lamps. They're great on dip beam and even the mains are great on a straight road, with a nice wide, bright white beam lighting up all the verges and way down the road.

It's when I've been in the corners, leaning over that I have a problem. With the beam being so narrow, I find I'm looking into the corners and there's no light being cast by the headlights at all - even on main beam.

My mountain bike's got better spread than the VFR and I do wonder if a couple of additional LED spotlamps that only come on with the main beam would cure this issue.

I've had a look around, but cannot find any solutions being offered at the moment - has anyone else had this issue and already sorted their bike out?

Went for a quick Thanksgiving Day joyride today, enjoy!  Sorry about the poor audio quality at the beginning - seems to go away once I start riding.

Warning:  There's about a minute of USA chestbeating commentary in the vid where I was giving thanks for living in the USA - so my apologies to the non-USA members :)

Edit:  I just noticed that there's a speed limit sign in the thumbnail pic which is a bit lower than what's showing on my speedometer - LOL

overheating in traffic

25 degree Celsius 10km of slow stop start traffic, watched the engine temperature climb to 122 degrees then warning light came on. I pulled over let it cool, checked coolant seemed ok and fan seems to be working. Only done 5000kms. Rode home normally after cool down in lighter traffic. Any one experienced this or any ideas?

I think the Viffer looks good from this angle, taken here crossing the Pyrenees from Spain back into France.

New 8th gen - $6,500!!

Browsing ebay this evening turns up a new 2014 (1 mile) for Buy It Now $6,500.   Incredible!  I paid $8,500 for my '99 5th gen when new.  Using an inflation calculator, in today's prices that would be $12,317.   Inflation calculator  That makes this 8th gen about 1/2 the price of my 5th gen in constant Dollars.  I can only wonder what that kind of pricing says about the US market and whether Honda will continue to sell it here.

Has anyone found a source for a 8th Gen non-locking gas cap?  I need one as I have a SW-Motech tank ring, and with it installed fueling here in California is a pain due to the vapor recovery boots.

Aftermarket Pipes For Gen 8

So far as far as I know the Akrapovic is the only pipe available for the gen 8, so maybe we can post here if peoples become aware of any new ones that become available.

The Akra is not readily available from the usual sources either, and the sewing machine sound of the stock doesn't quite do it...

Thanks in advance.

Honda Panniers for VFR

I just recently got a set of the factory panniers for my VFR... is it just me or is it a bit of a pain to get these things on/off without whacking the rear turn signal lenses?  If I'm not careful doing this, I could see the lenses getting scratched up over time.

Note: This happens with the rubber stopper things that come with the panniers installed on the bike.

Otherwise, they're a great looking set of (expensive) luggage.

Flexing VFR muscle at the gym

I was leaving the gym tonight and this very nice biker/gym-bro asked me if my bike was a Kawi ZX.  As his punishment for such an egregious mistake he agreed to rev my bike in this quasi-tunnel so I could film a little sound clip. Words cannot describe how awesome it sounded in there!

Crank up the volume and enjoy!

Washed it and took some pics

Washed it (check out how shiny the INSIDE of the tailpipe is!) and took it for a ride just to air dry it - or so I thought. Decided to take some pics (doesn't she have a sweet @$$? looked so nice I had to grab it :) ) and ended up cruising around for about an hour since it was so nice out. Now she probably needs to be washed again - LOL

Fuel economy - what should i expect?

Hi everyone,

I am getting close to buying an 8th gen VFR800 (currently have a Triumph Sprint GT) I know it depends greatly on what kind of riding and journey length I will be doing but,

what mpg should the latest version do? I had a VFR1200f a few years back and that returned an average of high 30's to low/mid 40's. Not exactly great but it greatly improved on longer trips.

I would hope the smaller engined bike would be better?

RaceTech For Gen8

Dropped off my 2014 VFR800FD at RaceTech in Corona yesterday.  They're going to use it to develope fork springs and Gold Valve specs for Gen8 and also going to fit a G3S rear shock that will be spec'd as a replacement for the stock shock.  These parts should show up in their catalog in the future.  I'll post comments about my thoughts on the ride and handling once I get the bike back.

I bought my VFR as a cat d write off and as a result I've had the fairings painted.  The chrome 3D decals are £150 a pair here in the UK so does anyone know where I can get them cheaper!

Need help deciding if I should switch to a VFR

Hi,

First post, I hope everyone is well...

I'm considering a new leftover VFR, still deciding Deluxe or not.  Only real feature I crave is the remote preload as I feel the upgraded fork is nice but nothing special because not much adjustments are added.  Am I wrong about the fork?  ABS and TC not too critical but nice.  It's about a $1.5k difference it seems in otd pricing.

Right now I have a '14 CB1000R (may favorite bike ever!), a '09 FZ1 and a '14 WR250R.  I'm using the FZ1 for longer rides and two up with the lady.  It's ok for that but she's not interested in more than 150 miles a day.  The FZ1 is nice but I love the looks and everything of the VFR.

I'm 6'1" 235 and the lady is 5'4" 120 btw.

1. How's the VFR for long distance?  I imagine a lot better with bar risers.  How's the seat?

2. The clutch pull seems heavy to me.  How does everyone feel?  I have a bad left wrist but FZ1 is ok, although a little hard.  My CB1000R and WR250R are both smooth and easy.

3. Anyone ever own the FZ1 gen 2 and can compare?

4. Any main issues with the VFR?

5. How hard is it to adjust rear shock preload on the base model?

I sold my FJR thinking the FZ1 would be enough.  I'm also considering an ST1300 (not sure how hard the clutch pull is on it) but it seems a bit boring and the heat issue worries me.

Again, this will mainly be for two up or longer rides of 400-500 miles.

After owning 10 bikes I've never ever bought or owned an aftermarket end can.  Yesterday I ordered a Demon XLS carbon fibre exhaust.  I'm not interested in more power or more noise but the stock can is fugly - plain and simple.  Hopefully it will be here tomorrow. :)
